Uncle Sam vs. US Taxpayers round 30+

I just finished reading rants on slashdot.org over the FCC upholding some new MPAA restriciotn on digital content. My question is, since when has it been the federal government’s job to spend taxpayer’s money protecting the interests of private enterprise so they get all that could possibly come to them? So basically I should just put a sign on my website “Don’t hack me please” and leave the shit wide open without a decent attempt at security and expect the federal gov’t to track down anyone that takes a peek at my database server? Seriously, if you leave your car unlocked it will probably be stolen, lock the doors. If your content is unprotected don’t expect the gov’t to track down the kids that are downloading it, snag them, and spend thousands of dollars in legal fees and personnel. What a waste for a silly offense. I’m sure 12 yr old Billy really thought that he was doing somthign wrong if it was so easy to access. This is why technology gets better. People push it farther. They make it idiot proof and someone makes a better idiot, they make it secure, someone hacks it. Forcing companies to churn out better security. Hence why we have such incredible security products available today. Accept the way society and technology interact and quit whining to your mother (or gov’t) that Billy stole your cookie.
