Well SRQ dodged a bullet. Port Charlotte and Orlando weren’t so lucky unfortunately. I know my house went untouched, and if the Key didn’t even lose power, then all of SRQ must be fine. I feel really bad for the less fortunate areas though. I’m going to be seeing the degree of destruction up close soon. I’ve got a job providing relief. Mara (you all know Mara, mom’s friend) is the contracted caterer for FPL emergency relief crews. So it’s her job to feed 1000 repair workers 3 meals a day totalling 3000 calories with no power or running water. And she needs employees of course. So Jordan is working too. Hope all is well with everyone and that you all dodged hurricane Charley.

On a lighter note, this is awesome, and someone should buy me one.

Woah, this is a business. Feeding 1000 FPL workers is not free. It costs a tremendous amount of money.

I certainly don’t intend to donate my time to a business providing for profit services to another business also providing for profit services.

That’s like opening up a McDonalds in Africa but expecting employees to work for free because the people are hungry.

Just talked to Mara, seems I’ll be working 17 hour days. 4 a.m. - 9 p.m. Plus a 40 minute drive to and from work. Did I mention no power or shelter or running water at my job site?

you don’t always have to get paid as a reward for helping out your friends and neighbors in dire need of help

not neighbors no, but helping the power companies which indirectly helps your neighbors i can understand. i wouldnt expect people to help my for-profit business just because we were providing relief

by fixing our own things that broke in the storm. i dont see the power company coming out to help me put a new roof on my house…
