well, i personally think that the democratic ideals on a large scale are a waste, because you have all too many people that abuse the system and waste other people’s money. where you could just as easily force them to be better people that work hard to get what they have. this isn’t a political rant, so i will get to the point.

last week one of the buildings at the college park community pegasus pointe caught fire and made numerous students temporarily homeless. i was reading the article and thinking about how much that must really suck, then i got to the end..

College Park Communities is giving each displaced resident bedding and towels, Hartzler said.

UCF Victims Services joined American Red Cross workers at the scene to hand out toiletries. Eckerd, Target and Bed Bath & Beyond are donating linens and gift certificates. Barnes & Noble has also agreed to replace all textbooks free of charge.

Christine Mouton, coordinator at Victims Services, said, “At this point, we have some clothes that have been donated to us by the [UCF] Bookstore, and we are still trying to get a whole bunch of personal items like toothpaste and shampoo.”

I was really impressed to see the outpouring of support for the students. I think this sort of assistance for disaster victims is heart-warming. granted they should have had renter’s insurance, but donations by private enterprises based on their own decisions to help is encouraging that this world still has some decent people. and although i am a staunch proponent of being responsible for one’s self, i would if i were in the position to, have done the same thing.
