i should never be root

it seems every time i su root i manage to screw something up.

tonight i merely attempted to change the log directories so each virtualhost had its own spot for logs. useful right? well apache didnt start back up. the post was already in use, no dice on ps aux | grep apache kill EVERYTHING i tried that.

so after attempting to kill everything and it not working, i rebooted. ah apache fired right back up. now what? mysql couldn’t find itself. sigh…

so i decided that would be a good time to upgrade to the latest version anyway.

i definitely should NOT run my own projects on a production machine. with as much time as i spend screwing around with it, it is just asking for trouble. i bumped up the php_memory size_limit to 32M from 8M. thumbnails actually work on larger images now. although still not my 6.3MP from my rebel, maybe ill kick it up again later. such a processor hog though. next up is figuring out how to make apache never use 100% processor. that way it can never kill the server.
