my internet quests sometimes pay off
Published by kyle April 15th, 2005 in Newssome people may wonder what i do all these long hours sitting in front of this glowing box banging away at some plastic buttons and moving a plastic blob around on a desk…
well, so do i usually - but tonight i have found a reason and a reward for all my long hard hours spent browsing. i have found one of the most amazing apps i have ever used. Its called Delicious Library. You can usually bet that if something wins the o’reilly innovators contest, that it is some hot stuff, but this blows last year’s winners away. I mean, launchbar kicked so much ass that apple had to snag the idea and improve upon is (hopefully) and focus (no pun intended) an entire release on it - but this, this is just SO cool.
okay, okay, enough drooling, what does it do!? well, you can use it to catalog all your books, movies, cds, xbox games, etc. you can tell it who borrowed what and when and all that business. if you bought a textbook for school, it will remind you you still have it next semester and in a few clicks you can list it for sale online.
okay - but what a pain in the ass entering all that info. WRONG. enter iSight - hold your items in front of your isight, Delicious looks up the UPC code and downloads all the information including a picture if available. it then puts the item on your digital shelf.
here is the screenshot. as you can see it doesn’t have pics for all my items, but damn that’s cool.
free to try, $40 to buy.
also, if you drag a movie over to someone in your contacts list (let someone borrow it), auto generated from address book, it marks it on your shelf as “out” meaning, you have it, but its on loan.
will this work on the laptop I don’t have yet ?
