my first real class
Published by kyle May 20th, 2005 in lifethis semester is a real mile-stone in my academic career for me, for this semester is my first semester taking a real class. not some waste-of-time gen ed, or some general math class that applies to everything under the gravitational pull of the earth or sun, take your pick. also, its my first class with a professor. i know, you might be saying, okay so who usually was teaching, the professor’s dog? no, their trained monkeys of course, yeah, GTAs, PhD students, you name it, I’ve had it. When you actually get a real professor though, its like you actually feel like you get something for all that tuition money. He actually explains stuff, he has a sense of humor, he knows what he is talking about, doesn’t need to consult a book to answer a question, understand the questions you are asking, oh, and by some miracle, this one speaking ENGLISH. O M G.
today’s rather reflective and amusing quote came when talking about the universe. He began by saying how everything in the universe is connected, albeit loosely, for example, we are in communication with satellites right now that are beyond pluto. the fact the we can rattle a thin piece of wire here on earth (probably relayed to an orbiting sat.) and consequently have another thin piece of wire millions of miles away resonate those effects, nearly instantaneously, is amazing, he jokingly added “and thats about as close as I get to religion.”
I thought it was rather amusing. We then went on with our discussion of some actually really cool stuff, that is way complicated, but well explained, I was thinking about dropping and taking the semester off, but i really don’t want to risk having a GTA in the fall. this material will probably kill me either way, but oh well. In other news, i think i’ll probably be doing grad school, somewhere near palo alto hopefully
finally, im over the star wars hype, is the news that slow today? also, to answer my own question, yes i checked, that probably the most interesting things that happened all day.
this is cool though
so I guess that means you are going to do summer school - ok - now - what’s this about Pal O Alto ?
what’s up with all this star wars crap anyway - I just don’t get it - I think the first star wars movie sucked - the others have to be worse
i guess kyle wants to follow a shoemaker to stanford?
i don’t think a shoemaker has anything to do with it. i think i would be headed out there because of the r&d labs in the surrounding areas, not to mention the great school, but i would imagine the admissions guy would laugh when he saw “UCF” so i wasn’t aiming neccesasarily at that.
i know..i was kidding…isnt apple based near there…because austin works for them?
aim high: SCTI.
