ad madness
Published June 11th, 2005 in projectsso a while back, april 16th to be exact, i saw an article on engadget talking about clear channel offering radio snippets over wireless phones. so, i added some pieces together, marketing & cell phones, and this was about the time they started doing those customizable rings on cell phones. so here is what im thinking - you’ve seen google’s adwords, why not ‘ad-rings ™’? when someone calls you, instead of a ringing noise, they hear ads relevant to the area they are calling to/from. then if they want to hear more they can press a special button on their phone to have a rep call them back after their conversation is over with whomever they were calling. scenario: calling papa johns to get pizza?
ad: “let me connect you,” but first, “did you know domino’s has a special 2 for 1 ? ” papa john: “hello, this is papa johns, may i help you?” caller: “you guys have 2 for 1 deals?” papa john: “no” caller: “okay thanks anyway.”
then you get connected to domino’s and order your 2 for 1 pizza, because 1 just wasn’t enough, you fatty.
im pretty sure you just got a deal, and someone made cash on the advertising. not sure how the fee schedule would be set up, if you could make it like adwords hosted on a site, click through rates are hard to track on the phone, but hey, hitting that special button would track it, and save the person the trouble of looking up the number, never know, it could work. so how long before ads inundate even our phone calls?
Why must you contribute to the downfall of society? One day you will invent a means by which ads can scroll across the back of my eyelids 24 hours a day. That, coincidentally, will also be the day I kill you and myself.
