another rss aggregator

A long while ago, probably over a year now, i wanted to jump on this RSS stuff and have a custom built aggregator that tracked stories, click through rates, readership and many other statistics to aim more interesting stories at the user, thereby reducing the signal to noise ratio. Build a nice interface that allowed for quick ratings of articles, say have a few different icons so as you browse through articles and find something interesting, you can (ie) click the ‘humorous’ icon and it would get tagged as a funny article, that way you can set up to browse through ’smart categories’ as well as the normal rss feeds categories. Also, instead of ‘click to read more’ and get sent to another page, have a nice drop-down to load the rest of the story without getting sent anywhere else. anyway, i never got the project off the ground, partially because i don’t have the skills, yet, and partially because i don’t have the time. if anyone wants to help out on it, i think it’d be a nice learning experience. oh, and the best part about the site, and the reason i wanted to do it. have all the data mined from the clicks, be publicly available through published RSS feeds. that way people could select the most interesting, or most humorous feeds aggregated and rated from as many sources they wanted. basically it would be a missive customizable filter for news feeds. i also wanted to add some time relevant articles so as you read through the feeds you would know when certain stories or events occurred in relation to other events. yes i also wanted to have somewhat of a world history, as seen by bloggers. heh.

Alex King’s release of feedlounge, another web-based RSS aggregator inspired my personal disappointment with how bad i am at getting my projects done.

maybe i should throw in some nifty podcasting stuff to make it a bit more unique. not too many sites are down with podcasting yet. rating on those would be gold considering how long some of them are. people can ramble for hours.. oh right.
