top secret commenting
Published by kyle June 11th, 2005 in Newsit has come to my attention that some people, who will obviously remain nameless, have some sort of fear associated with my comment system. honestly, i get comments on my website daily from people who just refuse to use the comment system. my question is why. it isn’t like it publishes your email address, you can even enter a fake one. you don’t even need to enter a real name. i just don’t understand. your comments might be useful and inspiring. but for everyone but me, they will remain nonexistent. what is the fear of contributing? please note * i do understand the irony of me posting this asking for comments from the non-commenters.
That happens quite a bit on my blog as well (probably all blogs out there suffer from this in some way).
Well, I never actually get to see the site or top secret commenting system. I guess it’s one of the many sins of using a RSS agrigator (Bloglines rocks) that I’d never get to find out that you have this system till you make a blog entry calling…uh..someone out.
Anyway, while I’m here, couple of things. First, in the commenting, if I entered an email address, what happens with that? Does it get shown to other users in some way? Do you sell it or ad me to your donkey / midget picture mailing list? It took me forever to get off that list the first time hence my skepticism.
Second, could you make the “vaugelyaware.com” image at the top of each page clickable to get back home? That would be real handy.
Last, get the hell back on IM cause leaving comments and coming back to check them is soooo 1996.
you know, i go to great length (proxies, ip masquerading, wi-fi hotspots) to make sure i don’t get tracked down for that donkey/midget mailing list, i don’t know how i always get found out on that…
no, email addresses are logged on the server but never published or shared. in fact, yours certainly isn’t because you didn’t enter one. but no, its as secure as can be.
also, yeah, actually there is a little hidden link in the upper left of the image to get back, i know, the site needs design work. trust me, i know. been working on that all of friday. just can’t get something i like.
as far as the comments deal, yeah, its is pretty 96, i get emails every time there is an update on comments, in fact there are plug-ins so you can enter your email and subscribe to comments when they are added, which is quite nice if it is a post you are interested in. or are arguing with someone, and just absolutely HAVE to have the last word.
lastly, in case nobody noticed this, apple-i apparently opens up a new email with the current safari web-page in it. whats up with that? i kepe trying to make stuff italics, next thing i know im sending out donkey mail again.. sigh.
